❓ Can you convert a PNG to a DXF file?

Yes. The tool traces the PNG into vector contours and saves them as a DXF. It works best on logos, icons and line art. If you want SVG instead of DXF, use the JPG to SVG or WebP to SVG tracer.

❓ Can I use the DXF for laser cutting or CNC?

Yes. The file uses LWPOLYLINE entities. LightBurn, AutoCAD, LibreCAD, Fusion 360 and most laser and CNC controllers read those directly. Use Black and White mode for one clean cutting layer.

❓ Why is the scale in pixels, and how do I get millimeters?

A PNG has no DPI, so there is no way to know its real size. The DXF comes out in pixels, where one unit is one pixel of the image (scaled down to 2048 on the long side). After you import it, scale the drawing to a known dimension in your CAD or slicer.

❓ Can I trace a photo, or only line art?

Not really. Tracing needs clear edges, the kind a logo or line-art silhouette has. A photo has soft gradients and turns into thousands of stray polylines. Threshold or clean up the image first. Failing that, start from a simpler graphic.

❓ What software opens a DXF file?

AutoCAD, LibreCAD (free), LightBurn, Fusion 360, Inkscape and most CAM software. If you need DWG, import the DXF into AutoCAD and save it as DWG there.

❓ Is it free?

Yes, free to use in your browser. You do not make an account, and the output carries no watermark or daily cap.

❓ Do my files get uploaded to a server?

No. The whole conversion runs in your browser, so the PNG never leaves your device. That is the main reason to use it for client or confidential artwork.

❓ What is the difference between PNG and DXF?

A PNG is a raster image, a grid of pixels that looks fine on screens and in photos. A DXF is a vector drawing, the lines and curves a machine can follow. Converting one to the other is tracing: the tool finds the edges in the pixels and rebuilds them as polylines.

❓ Does it make a centerline for single-pass engraving?

No. It traces outlines, the edge of each shape, not a single centerline down the middle of a stroke. For centerline engraving you need a dedicated centerline or medial-axis tool. For a clean outline cut, this is exactly the right output.
