Both directions, one queue

The program identifies files by signature and labels every row in the list. Mix .MSG and .EML in one run: it converts each to the other format.

The full header block

When a message has stored internet headers, the whole Received chain moves into the .EML, including DKIM-Signature and Authentication-Results lines. Mail that travelled through SMTP usually has them. The signature will not verify afterwards because repacking the body changes its hash. When the stored header property is missing, the program rebuilds headers from MAPI fields.

Every recipient

The program parses all To, Cc and Bcc recipients, plus Date, Message-ID, References, In-Reply-To and Return-Path, preserving threading fields. It writes recipients as standard SMTP addresses. Bcc recipients become visible in the .EML. Check before you pass a converted file on.

Attachments and inline pictures

Attachments stay byte for byte identical; we check sha256 hashes in our round-trip tests. Inline pictures stay inline through multipart/related.

Japanese and Cyrillic subjects come out right

Non-ASCII subjects and display names are written as RFC 2047 encoded-words, folded at 78 characters per line. In reverse, the program decodes the encoded-word before storing the subject as readable text rather than a raw =?UTF-8?B? string.

Long queues without a frozen window

The batch runs off the interface thread, so you can keep working through a long queue. The end summary separates converted, copied, skipped and failed files. Non-mail files count as skipped.

How do I save an Outlook MSG file as EML?

Classic Outlook for Windows writes .MSG and has no .EML option in Save As. The new Outlook and Outlook on the web can download messages as .eml, one at a time. For a whole folder of .MSG files, use MSG to EML Converter Software. Choose your output folder and get one .EML per message.

Are MSG and EML the same format?

Outlook writes .MSG as a binary container holding MAPI properties. You can open an .EML in Notepad and read its headers. Converting between them requires rebuilding the message as MIME parts.

Will my attachments survive the conversion?

Yes. A message attached inside another message uses 8bit encoding when it contains non-ASCII text. That is fine for opening and archiving, but less suitable for sending back through a plain SMTP relay.

What happens to Cyrillic or emoji in the subject line?

Non-ASCII subject lines use RFC 2047 encoded-words, as mail clients expect. Many converters struggle with encoding: one widely used open-source script needed a manual patch for wide characters in headers. Non-ASCII bodies use quoted-printable, which takes three characters per byte. A Cyrillic message can grow by roughly 43% on disk.

Does the free trial limit how many files I can convert?

The unregistered software converts your whole queue with no file cap. A waiting screen appears before the first file and every five files after that: five seconds initially, increasing by ten seconds on each appearance. Registering the program removes the waiting screen.
