How to download and use NSF to PST Converter Software

Open the Lotus Notes database

Look through the mail first

You can exclude Deleted and Trash items, and keep or drop inline images. The reader applies your filters before export.

Attachments come out whole

The program extracts files from the note, including attachments Domino compressed on the server. Skip decompression and a mailbox with server-side compression arrives without its files. Before release, we checked expanded attachments against their declared size and file-type signature on our test corpus.

Addresses Outlook can reply to

Notes stores names in its own canonical form, like CN=John Smith/O=Acme, which Outlook cannot use for replies. The program takes the real SMTP address from the message headers where it survives, or builds it from the canonical name.

Folder tree, counted once

The program recognizes Inbox, Sent and Drafts by their view formulas and keeps your own folder names. A message present in both a folder and All Documents is written to the PST once.

It tells you what went wrong

The program explains why it cannot read a database: an ODS version below 41, local Notes encryption, or a file that is not a Notes database. It never presents a read failure as an empty mailbox.

Yes, this NSF to PST converter works without Lotus Notes. Most converters rely on an installed Notes client to read the file. We parse the NSF structure directly, so you need neither Notes nor a Domino server. You only need Outlook later, to open the resulting PST.

How do I open a Lotus Notes NSF file in Outlook?

Outlook has no NSF importer, so you need to convert the file to PST first. You get a Unicode PST, which Outlook allows to grow to 50 GB by default. The old ANSI format was capped at 2 GB. Folder names, dates and read state survive, and attachments open.

Does it convert contacts, calendar entries and tasks?

We chose to convert mail only in this version. Notes calendar entries, especially repeating meetings, often arrive damaged in Outlook, with invitations that open blank. Where are NSF files stored in Lotus Notes?

Local databases usually sit in the Notes data folder, often C:\\Program Files\\IBM\\Notes\\Data, C:\\Program Files\\HCL\\Notes\\Data or, on 64 bit Windows, the same path under Program Files (x86). The mail file is named after the user. Archives are often in an archive subfolder or on a network share. You can open any copy without registering it with a Notes installation.
