Download the installer and run the setup wizard. At the Bank account step, enter the routing and account numbers from a current check. Open the Bank & MICR tab and compare that check with the live MICR sample. The digits and symbols should match.

Choose Blank check stock and answer Where is the check on the sheet? with top, middle or bottom. A laser printer's unprintable margin often clips the MICR line on bottom checks. The program checks the layout against your printer's margins. If the line would be clipped, click Switch to check on top or Switch to middle.

In Print Checks, load a plain sheet and click Print alignment page. Lay the printout over a check sheet and hold both against a window. If the marks miss their lines, measure the gap, enter it under Left/right and Up/down, and print again.

Checkbook Printing Software is MICR check printing software with its own E-13B font for the MICR line. Characters are 0.117 in tall on a 0.125 in pitch, 3/16 in above the bottom edge. We reserve the bottom 0.625 in for that line, clear of memos and signatures.

Yes, in the US, for your own accounts. You can print checks yourself with correct account data, a MICR line your bank can read and your signature. Each bank can refuse office-printed checks, so ask yours first.

The check printing software free download includes free test and alignment pages; you supply the paper. Trial checks are stamped VOID - SAMPLE, so no bank will cash them. Real checks need a license key. Buy blank stock and MICR toner separately.

Blank check stock is paper sold for printing checks; it carries no account data until you print. Anyone holding a signed check without a payee or an amount can fill it in. Keep signed blanks rare and lock them away like cash.

To print a blank check and fill it in by hand later, choose Print blank checks. It prints your company and bank details, the check number and the MICR line, leaving payee, amount and signature empty. Each number enters the register as Blank issued.

Blank check stock is letter-size paper, usually heavier than office paper, with a security background and tear-off perforations. Buy the layout you picked in the program. Generic voucher stock is perforated at 3.5 in and 7 in.

We recommend MICR toner on blank stock because many banks read the MICR line magnetically. Regular toner may lead to sorter rejection and manual entry, which can add a fee and delay payment. A MICR cartridge for HP 58A printers is one example. Any toner works on your bank's pre-printed checks.

Usually, though your bank can refuse them. We have not run checks through US banks ourselves. Deposit a single printed check and wait for it to clear before printing the rest of the pack.

We advise against inkjet: the ink can smear, and some store scanners fail to read inkjet checks. A regular office laser printer is enough; our Brother office laser printed test checks without clipping. Use the main paper tray, since budget printers sometimes feed sheets at an angle from a manual slot.
