QFX is Intuit's own variant of OFX. Microsoft, Intuit and CheckFree announced that format on January 16, 1997, and Intuit has kept QFX for Quicken Web Connect ever since, so your file is written for one product and read by one product. A bank with a longer name to send puts the full form in a separate payee block or in an extended name field, and pushes the rest of what it wanted to say into the memo beside it, which holds around 255. An import quietly categorizes on whichever fragment it happened to take, so the rule it learns sits on the wrong name. One parser reads .qfx and .ofx in the old SGML form of OFX 1.x, with its missing closing tags, and in the XML form of OFX 2.x. Bank downloads and broker downloads go in the same way. QFX to PDF Converter never asks which version you have. It works that out from the markup.

A withdrawal is printed in brackets as well as in color. Color alone is gone the moment the page goes through a fax or a monochrome printer, and a color blind reader never had it to begin with. The optional running column, off until you switch it on, is called Running total and not Balance on purpose. It is the sum of the rows printed here, not the balance your account carried at each line.

Nothing is written to disk until you have seen the opening rows in plain text and agreed that parser read them right. Merchant names in Cyrillic or CJK come through without mangling, which matters when the shop is a foreign one.

QFX is the Web Connect variant of it that Intuit keeps for its own products, so the extension is effectively claimed by one program and Windows ships no viewer for it. QFX to PDF Converter reads the file and writes a PDF statement, which covers the case where the job is to read and print, not to keep books.

Install the converter, drag the .qfx in and convert it to PDF. A .qfx is plain text inside, so a text editor will happily show you the tags, but tags are not a statement. The amounts, the dates and the payees stay scattered between markup. What comes out here is a laid out table with one transaction per row.

Yes, that is the entire job of this tool. Drop in the .qfx or .ofx file, look at the preview, press Convert. Be aware the output is PDF and only PDF: there is no spreadsheet export in this product, and it is better you know that before you download it.

Not directly. Excel has no QFX filter, and renaming the extension to .csv or .txt just gives you a screen of tags. If a spreadsheet is genuinely the goal, this is the wrong tool for you. When the goal is a document to print, file or send on, it is the right one.

Two different things get called Quicken files. The transaction downloads, .qfx and .ofx, are the ones this converter opens, and those are the files a bank or a broker hands you.
