AES-256-GCM with Argon2id

USB Drive Encryption Software encrypts with AES-256-GCM and derives the key from your password with Argon2id. GCM is an authenticated mode, so a file that was altered on the drive fails its check rather than opening into garbage. Argon2id makes guessing a weak password expensive in both time and memory.

Long answer: on some Home laptops Device Encryption switches on by itself when the hardware qualifies. Microsoft is blunt about the scope of that feature. In their words it "encrypts only the OS drive and fixed drives, it doesn't encrypt external/USB drives". So a Home machine has no built-in way to lock a flash drive.
